now that the car is in an awful state of disrepair I know that I won't be taking the car, what I do have is progress this week. We have started putting on the new brake wheel cylinder and now that we have the battery we will be starting the car. The problem is that I don't have disk brakes meaning that it's not easy to put together. The difference between disk brakes and drum brakes is that in a drum brake there are a ton of moving parts and springs that go together and are difficult to take apart, so just the disassembly of one of the back brakes took about an hour. Putting it back together will continue when I have more time because currently I have other things of greater importance but it should be at school by the last day of school.

The assumption that I would be driving the car to school was wrong, on the end of the brakes there is a nub, on this nub there is a little screw that is vital to getting the brakes done and now that I don't have that I won't be able to stop so i've decided that I won't be risking my life by driving to school in a car without brakes. another problem is that the battery is shot, it won't keep its charge so we can't start the car without a battery that is operable so it for sure won't be coming off the jackstands.
I believe that I will be driving the school in for the presentation but I don't know which gas tank it'll be running on. the one in the back is the one with all the hoses connected to it but that should be coming out. the problem is that the pipe going into the gas tank that should be the gas tank is that the hole is to small to see through so you can barely tell what your looking at. another thing that i'm working on is taking all the weave material talked about in a previous post is getting taken out on the other side. Finally i'm getting to a point where it will be drivable soon.
This week I fixed a battery issue that started earlier in the week. The battery wasn't charged so I had to get the jumper cables out of my dad's car and hook them up to my battery on the Plymouth Fury. Once I got the battery fixed the car didn't want to run because there was no gas in the gas line so I had to pour some down the carburetor. I have been waiting 3 weeks for my older brother to get me the master cylinder and he still hasn't gotten it. So my parents said they would order it as soon as possible.
This week I decided to start working on the interior of the car. Inside the car there are these push pressed weave like things that make the separation between the interior sheet metal and the exterior sheet metal look better. The problem is that the weave material is old and is completely falling apart. So I decided to take it out. I took it out by getting a wedge and prying the metal apart, I did this until I realized that the sheet metal had screws in it that I had to take out which made getting the material out really easy. So all the material is out of the passenger side and i'm working on getting it out of the drivers side.
This week I spent trying to connect the hoses for the gas tank to the filler neck and sealing the tube to the gas tank. I also need the vent tube to connect to the gas tank. We went to advanced auto parts and ordered the master cylinder and we also need replacement brake lines because the line that connected to the master cylinder is all rusted out. Well see what work can be done on the head liner and we also need to loosen the wire that connects from the gas pedal to the engine because the pedal won't come back up after its pushed down.
This past week I spent taking out the master cylinder which is what allows me to use the brakes. I had to unplug the battery that way my brake lights wouldn't stay permanently on. My older brother has a job at advanced auto so with his 25% discount can buy the master for much cheaper and I get a discount if i can turn in my old master. I talked to my parents and they said that the headliner needs to go because its dry rotted. Also the old gas tank has been in the backseat so the interior smells like gas, so we need a lot of febreze.
This week me and my father got the hoses out and saw how they hooked up, but its not in the gas tank yet. I looked at the interior to see what could be fixed and what we had time and money for. One thing the stood out to me is the headliner. It looks like its falling apart but really its just got loose stitching. So the headliner is an easy fix, the carpets just need to be cleaned and around the windows is this material that covers sharp edges that's just falling apart. Obviously that needs to be removed but the seats are torn up and that's really the worst of it. Although the door handles need to be fixed.
Sorry I haven't been able to post sooner this week, I spent half this week with my grandparents and the other half with some friends. This week since we didn't have the master cylinder and my dad couldn't find the time to help me put the hoses for getting fuel to the gas tank i just decided that the car needed some cleaning. i washed the car using the 2 bucket method where one bucket has nice clean and soapy water and the other bucket is the rinse bucket where all the debri from washing the car goes. The trouble with washing the car is that we don't have running water on the outside of the house so I wasn't able to keep the car moist causing the car to dry out leaving water marks.
This week I spent busting my knuckle under the car, combined with getting flakes of rust and metal all over me made putting the gas tank in not a pleasurable experience. The trouble with putting the gas tank in was that the gas tank takes up a huge amount of space so maneuvering it was difficult. Attaching the gas tank to the car is done by getting to metal straps and j-hook screws and hanging the hook from the frame and then attaching the straps to the j-hook on one side and a little slit in the frame on the other side. Now with the gas tank attached all that's left to do with the gas tank is wire it and attach the hoses that way i can get fuel in and out of the tank, for the wiring aspects of it I have to find a way to hook the new wires to the old wires that way i can get a read on the fuel gauge.
